Back on Friday, October 6, 2017, I witnessed my last High School
Football Game inside of Beavercreek High School’s (BHS) Miami Valley Hospital
Stadium (MVHS). On that very night, BHS lost a very tough contest to Wayne High
School (WHS). After that night, Beavercreek ended up playing one, final Home
Game. Due to having to cover another game, I missed that Senior Night Game. Upon
exiting MVHS on 10/06/2017, I was under the impression that I would not return
until the 2018 Season. Once Ohio’s 2017 High School Football Regular Season
concluded on Friday, October 27, 2017, I possessed one wish. That wish was for
either MVHS or Xenia, Ohio’s Doug Adams Stadium (DAS) to host a Playoff Game. In
the First Round, I knew that it was not possible. Once the Second Round was
scheduled to begin, I knew that it was a possibility of taking place. Well,
here I am. Tonight (Friday, November 10, 2017), the Second Round is taking
place. My wish has come true. Currently, I am sitting inside of MVHS. In just
mere minutes, I will be covering a Regional Semifinal (Second Round) Game. The competing
teams will be Clinton-Massie High School (CMHS) and Valley View High School
(VVHS).
The
CMHS Falcons possesses an Overall Record of 10-1. The VVHS Spartans possesses an
Overall Record of 11-0. This forthcoming game will be a battle between two
Great Teams. Better yet, yours truly has not witnessed either team play in
2017. Therefore, I get to see two teams which will present me with things my
eyes have not seen. It always feels great to cover new teams. Due to the fact
that I do not know much about either team, I do not know what to expect. During
the 2017 Season, I have not followed either CMHS or VVHS. Other than what I
have watched on local news, I know nothing. Unlike the teams which I had to
cover, I did not do any studying. When I knew that I would be covering this game,
I briefly studied both teams. I just did not do extensive studying which I
normally perform. Clinton-Massie won the Official Coin Toss. The team has
deferred until the Second Half. Valley View will start on Offense.
After
the opening kickoff, Valley View High School started on its own 20-Yard Line. After
rushes on both 1st Down and 2nd Down, the ball rested on
the 28-Yard Line. On 3rd Down and 2, Quarterback Collin Wood threw
an Incomplete Pass. The intended receiver dropped the ball (10:45). With 10:44
on the clock, the Spartans had to Punt. Clinton-Massie High School’s Offense
started from its own 41-Yard Line. On 2nd Down and 12, the ball was
on the 39-Yard Line. Grant Rudy rushed the ball to Valley View’s 39-Yard Line (22-Yards
– 9:47). On 2nd Down and 6 from the Spartans’ 35-Yard Line,
Quarterback Corey Stulz kept the ball. He sped his way 30-Yards down the field.
When he was tackled, Stulz had reached VV’s 5-Yard Line (9:07). On 1st and Goal, Weston Trampler
got the ball to the 1-Yard Line. Once the next play got underway, Trampler took
the ball into the end zone (8:16). After the successful completion of Derick
Carlisle’s Extra Point Kick, Clinton-Massie leads Valley View 7-0. Valley View’s
next Offensive Drive started on its own 29-Yard Line. It was very short too.
On
2nd Down and 11 from the 28-Yard Line, Wood completed a pass to PJ
Varnadoe. The 14-Yard Play ended on the 42-Yard Line (7:29). On 1st Down
and 10, Collin Genslinger took the hand-off. Eventually, he ended up fumbling
the ball. Clinton-Massie’s Defense recovered the fumble (7:24). The ball rested
on the Spartans’ 38-Yard Line. On 2nd Down and 13 from the 41-Yard
Line, Stulz kept the ball. VV’s Defense instantly hit Stulz hard. The ball remained
on VV’s 41-Yard Line. The next play ended with Christian Poynter moving the
ball only 5-Yards. With the scoreboard reading 5:35, the ball was sitting on
the 36-Yard Line. Instead of punting, the Falcons decided to conduct a play. On
4th Down and 8, Stulz completed a 20-Yard Pass to Luke Richardson. With
5:19 remaining in the 1st Quarter, CMHS now faced 1st
Down and 10 on VVHS’s 16-Yard Line. After the snap, Poynter moved the ball to
the 7-Yard Line. On 2nd Down and 1, Trampler rushed the ball to the
2-Yard Line. The First Down was obtained (4:45).
On
1st and Goal, Poynter obtained the 2-Yard Touchdown (4:23). Carlisle’s
Extra Point Kick Attempt was Good. Clinton-Massie leads Valley View 14-0. A Sack
hampered the Spartans’ Offensive Drive. The team went three plays and out. On 4th
Down and 9 from its own 16-Yard Line, Valley View had to Punt (2:59). Clinton-Massie
took over at Midfield (50-Yard Line). At the 1:21 mark, the ball was on Valley
View’s 43-Yard Line. On 3rd Down and 1, Poynter picked up 9-Yards. With
17-Seconds remaining in the 1st Quarter, the Falcons faced 2nd
Down and 7. The ball was on the Spartans’ 31-Yard Line. Poynter obtained
another First Down. His run gained 7-Yards. At the end of the 1st
Quarter, Clinton-Massie leads Valley View 14-0. Shortly after the beginning of
the 2nd Quarter, a Holding Penalty was assessed against CM’s
Offense. The ball moved backed to VV’s 32-Yard Line.
On
2nd Down and 18, a rushing play took place. The runner ended up
fumbling the ball. Valley View’s Defense recovered the fumble (10:52). The ball
was on Valley View’s 24-Yard Line. Instantly, Genslinger made a 15-Yard Run. After
Genslinger went on to rush the ball twice more, the ball was positioned on the
Spartans’ own 45-Yard Line. On 3rd Down and 4, Wood completed a pass
to Varnadoe. The 17-Yard Completion placed the ball on the Falcons’ 38-Yard
Line (9:51). Then, VV went back to Genslinger. His legs moved the ball 5-Yards.
On 2nd Down and 5 from the 33-Yard Line, Wood completed a 15-Yard
Pass to Varnadoe (9:11). On 1st Down and 10, Genslinger ran the ball
to the 8-Yard Line (9:05). On 1st and Goal, Genslinger picked up the
8-Yard Touchdown (9:01). During the play, Genslinger ran up the middle. As he
got closer to the end zone, he ran right over a defender. After that,
Genslinger went into the end zone. Christian Meyers’ Extra Point Kick was Good.
By the score of 14-7, Valley View trails Clinton-Massie.
With
7:32 on the clock, Clinton-Massie faced 3rd Down and 3 from its own
41-Yard Line. After the snap, Trampler took the hand-off. Then, he proceeded to
make a 3-Yard Run. At 6:28, the ball was on the 45-Yard Line. On 1st
Down and 10, Daulton Wolfe obtained the 10-Yard First Down. He was brought down
on Valley View’s 45-Yard Line. From that point forward, the Falcons would go on
to move the ball only 2-Yards. The team had moved it 5-Yards. However, a
fumbled snap lost 3-Yards. On 4th Down and 8 from the Spartans’
43-Yard Line, CMHS was forced to Punt (3:36). Valley View’s Offensive Drive
started on the team’s own 17-Yard Line. On 2nd Down and 10, Wood
threw a Deep Pass downfield. Although the pass was incomplete, flags were
thrown. Clinton-Massie’s Defense was penalized for Pass Interference (2:48). That
penalty moved the ball to the Spartans’ 32-Yard Line. On 1st Down,
Wood completed a 15-Yard Pass to Varnadoe (2:39). On the next play, Genslinger
rushed the ball from the 47-Yard Line to CMHS’s 32-Yard Line (21-Yard Pass – 2:32).
With
1:41 remaining in the 2nd Quarter (and First Half), Valley View
faced 4th Down and 5 from Clinton-Massie’s 27-Yard Line. During the
process of picking up the 5-Yards which he needed, Genslinger moved the ball to
the 22-Yard Line. Behind the continued running done by Genslinger, the ball got
to the 15-Yard Line. A 3rd Down and 3 rush by Wood went absolutely
nowhere. On 4th Down and 3, the ball was still on CM’s 15-Yard Line.
Instead of attempting a Field Goal, VV decided to perform a play. After the
snap, Wood was intercepted by the Falcons’ Thomas J. Myers (29-Seconds). At the
end of the First Half, Clinton-Massie leads Valley View 14-7. Clinton-Massie
started the Second Half with possession of the football. The team’s Offensive
Drive started on its own 15-Yard Line. The Falcons went three plays and out. On
4th Down and 9 from the 16-Yard Line, CM was forced to Punt (10:25).
The ball was downed on the Spartans’ 35-Yard Line. On 1st Down and
10, Genslinger ripped off a 27-Yard Run. He was brought down on Clinton-Massie’s
38-Yard Line (10:07).
With
8:53 on the clock, Valley View faced 4th Down and 2 from
Clinton-Massie’s 30-Yard Line. Before the snap-from-center could even take
place, the Falcons’ Defense committed an Encroachment Violation. That penalty
moved the ball to the 25-Yard Line, and it gave the Spartans a First Down. On 2nd
Down and 10, Genslinger took the ball to the end zone (8:41). Before the Extra
Point Kick could even be attempted, VVHS was assessed a penalty. Therefore, no
Kick Attempt even took place. VVHS trails CMHS 14-13. Clinton-Massie’s next
Offensive Drive was quick and to the point. On 1st Down and 10 from
CM’s own 40-Yard Line, Stulz threw a Deep Pass downfield. Luke Richardson made
the reception, and he went on to make the 60-Yard Touchdown (8:25). Richardson
had multiple defenders beat. Carlisle’s Extra Point Kick was Good.
Clinton-Massie leads Valley View 21-13. After a Holding Violation was committed
during the Kickoff Return by Valley View, the Spartans’ Offensive Drive started
from its own 9-Yard Line. VVHS went on to go three plays and out. On 4th
Down and 6 from the 13-Yard Line, VVHS had to Punt (6:40).
During
the Punt, Valley View committed a Personal Foul. The ball was placed on the
Spartans’ 35-Yard Line. On 2nd Down and 8, the ball was on the
33-Yard Line. At 5:42, Tyler Beam rushed to the end zone for the Touchdown. Carlisle’s
Extra Point Kick was Good. Clinton-Massie leads Valley View 28-13. At the 5:15
mark, Valley View had a 2nd Down and 4 on its own 41-Yard Line. Before
the ball could be snapped, Clinton-Massie’s Defense committed an Encroachment
Violation. That mistake gave the Spartans a First Down. The ball was moved to
the Spartans’ 46-Yard Line. On 1st Down and 10, Genslinger took the
hand-off. He went on to fumble the ball. Luckily, VVHS was able to recover the
loose ball. The ball was recovered on CMHS’s 33-Yard Line (4:45). On 1st
Down and 10, Wood threw a Deep Pass into the end zone. The pass was incomplete
(4:21). The intended receiver was open. However, the ball was too far in front
of him. He was unable to reach the ball.
On
2nd Down and 10, Wood completed a 14-Yard Pass to Varnadoe. That completion
placed the ball on the 19-Yard Line (4:14). After a run on 1st Down
obtained only 3-Yards, Valley View had 2nd Down and 7 on
Clinton-Massie’s 16-Yard Line. Genslinger rushed the ball to the end zone
(3:07). Christian Meyers’ Extra Point Kick was Good. CMHS’s lead is now down to
28-20. At the end of the 3rd Quarter, the score remained 28-20. At the
8:33 mark of the 4th Quarter, VVHS’s Offense was on CMHS’s 29-Yard
Line. After the snap-from-center, Wood was intercepted by Clinton-Massie’s Luke
Richardson. With 5:09 remaining in the game, CMHS had a 1st Down and
10 on VVHS’s 43-Yard Line. The ball was handed off. The runner went on to
fumble the ball. Luckily, the Falcons’ Offense avoided a catastrophic mistake.
CM recovered the loose ball. Clinton-Massie continued its Offensive Drive which
chewed up a lot of time. At 1:26, Clinton-Massie faced 4th Down and
3 on Valley View’s 12-Yard Line. The Falcons got into Field Goal Formation. Unfortunately,
Carlisle’s Field Goal Attempt was blocked.
With
1:23 remaining in the game, Valley View was left with the following. The ball
was on the Spartans’ own 20-Yard Line. In order to score a Touchdown, VVHS
would have to go 80-Yards. In addition, a 2-Point Conversion would be needed to
tie the game and send it to Overtime Play. On 2nd Down and 10,
Genslinger picked up 10-Yards (1:12). At the 50-Seconds mark, Valley View faced
another 2nd Down Play. This time, it was 2nd Down and 1
on Valley View’s own 39-Yard Line. Genslinger proceeded to rush the ball to
Midfield (50-Yard Line). The next play ended with Wood completing a 25-Yard
Pass to Cade Cradlebaugh (38-Seconds). The drive stalled on Clinton-Massie’s
25-Yard Line. At one point, Wood threw a pass into the end zone. Austin Clark
was the intended receiver. Unfortunately, the pass was incomplete. With 21-Seconds
remaining in regulation, Valley View was left with 4th Down and 10
from Clinton-Massie’s 25-Yard Line. Wood went on to throw an Incomplete Pass
(17-Seconds). By the Final Score of 28-20, Clinton-Massie High School defeated
Valley View High School. If indeed this was the final Football Game which I
have covered for the 2017 Calendar Year, my coverage definitely went out with a
BANG!
